Whenever I go in search of a quote for a post, I look for quotes by women that fit what I want to say. Brilliant women have spoken many words that are inspiring and wise and yet often I notice that quote sites are dominated by men. Men say smart stuff, no question. However I felt inclined this week to gather some quotes by women exclusively.
Just to balance things a bit.
These are some that really speak to me.

A lot of people are afraid to say what they want. That’s why they don’t get what they want.

Quotes by Women – Transformation
Every fascinating story throughout history has at its heart a transformation. They’re often painful, and yet, most often, life is much better after whatever triggered the transformation. We can have daily transformations or we can have experiences that take months or even years. May these quotes by women inspire you to say yes!
You could start with this slide show on Oprah’s site.

Quotes by Women – Creator and Created
We are both creator and created. The great force in the universe that is forever creating us is known by many names but it’s still all one. In its image we can create using the gifts we came into this world with. What story are we telling?
When a great story is told, we lean forward, and our hearts race as the story unfolds.
– Nancy Duarte from Resonate
There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. If you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost. The world will not have it.
It is not your business to determine how good it is; nor how valuable it is; nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open.
– Martha Graham
I think midlife is when the universe gently places her hands upon your shoulders, pulls you close, and whispers in your ear:
‘I’m not screwing around. It’s time. All of this pretending and performing – these coping mechanisms that you’ve developed to protect yourself from feeling inadequate and getting hurt – has to go….
Time is growing short. There are unexplored adventures ahead of you. You can’t live the rest of your life worried about what other people think. You were born worthy of love and belonging. Courage and daring are coursing through you. You were made to live and love with your whole heart. It’s time to show up and be seen.’
– Brené Brown

If you chase anything in life chase the things that get you excited about living. Chase the things that give you hope, happiness and a glimpse of a better life. Chase the things that make you want to be a better person. Chase the things that inspire you to think, create and live joyfully. Chase the things that reinforce in your soul that you can make a difference. Chase the things that make you want to transform your heart from selfish to selfless. When you chase that kind of storm you are chasing rainbows.
– Shannon L. Alder
Quotes by Women – Women’s Voices
Women reclaiming and embodying their voices are a force of nature. We’re meant to learn how to speak with compassion even when we’re angry. We’re meant to ask questions without feeling out of place. We’re meant to amplify our voices and speak for those who can’t. It’s not about taking over the world. It’s about seeing the world we live in and saying yes to our assignment. Let these quotes by women inspire you to find your voice.
When we speak we are afraid our words will not be heard or welcomed. But when we are silent, we are still afraid. So it is better to speak.

It is a massive and fundamental receptivity. Not receptivity as once touted in classical psychology, that is as a passive vessel. But receptivity as in possessing immediate access to a profound wisdom that reaches to women’s very bones.

Quotes by Women – for Women Today
Sisterhood is the phenomenon that occurs when women quit seeing each other as mirrors, or reflections of themselves, and start seeing each other as one-of-a-kind works of art. Sisterhood happens when women view each other as deep wells of support and inspiration—as teammates—instead of competitors. Sisterhood happens between women who are secure enough to stop being afraid of each other; who do not feel that another woman’s different life choices are a judgment of her own choices. Sisterhood happens when we become curious instead of defensive about our differences. Sisterhood does not require the same beliefs or thoughts or political parties or churches. Peace is not about becoming the same; it’s about becoming okay with being different. There is so much untapped power in sisterhood.
– Glennon Doyle
