As we get closer and closer to the longest night of the year on Dec 21 st and the birth of a new year shortly after, it’s almost impossible not to move into inner reflection. Even in the midst of the madness and chaos of the holiday season.
Inner reflection shifts us back and forth between the external world and our inner landscape. From moment to moment, what we see changes according to whether we’re looking in a mirror or through a window.
The lens through which we view the world changes what we see.
It’s pretty easy to talk about how the world changes as our perception changes.
But inner reflection usually means taller waves and deeper submersion under the waves. Inner reflection is an initiation into an unknown territory.
I invite you to come with me on this journey of inner reflection through pain, pleasure, play and prayer.
Inner Reflection On Pain
Is your world a place of pain and chaos, seeming to run amok with dissatisfaction and greed? Or is your world an enchanted queen-dom of purpose, power and radiance; a place where you can show up every day as your fierce self, knowing that every barrier thrown into your path is just one more way you are going to expand into more?
Sometimes life is painful.
No one escapes it.
Yet I dance around it, wondering if there’s a yet undiscovered escape route.
Pretending the pain is not there works.
For a time.
But over and over again I discover
Resistance to it takes more energy than immersion in it.
And when something beckons, pushes, pulls irresistibly, I’m in.
In the tornado.
Whirling in pain.
Aching with it.
But along with the ache a strange yet familiar sense of rightness.
Like a seed is germinating in the earth of my discomfort.
How can that be?
I begin to see.
My world will change as pain changes me.
Oh, blessed pain.
Who will I be on the other side of you?
Inner Reflection On Pleasure
Pleasure is underrated. It’s seen as indulgence, not a necessity. Hard work comes first. Pleasure is last on a long list of priorities. Okay, stop! That’s just wrong. Pleasure is one of the most important aspects of life: pleasure of the body; pleasure in being a creator; pleasure in a warm fire, a cup of hot chocolate, and meaningful conversation. Accepting pleasure is a way of coming alive with inspiration and magic.
Being in pleasure states means being in my body.
All of my I Am-ness present and accounted for.
My mind quiet, peaceful, bubbling gently in creative thought.
Speaking from my wombspace.
Listening to my wise woman self.
Experiencing my wild woman self.
Moving, dancing, skipping, jumping.
Giddy with glee.
Feeling fully alive.
Is this what the world values in me?
But do I place more value on what the world says?
Or does my highest value belong to my own untamed heart?
Oh, blessed pleasure.
Who will I be as I come alive in you?
Inner Reflection On Play
Play is not a waste of time. Play is a way to understand your means of creative expression. Your only purpose for play is to have fun. But through fun and flow, you can learn to listen to the child-like (not childish) voice of the creator inside you. It’s been calling you, saying ME, ME, ME! Play is one of our most sacred rituals. Once it’s heard, understood, invited, it will show up in ways you could never imagine.
Play is my flash.
It’s my Aha! revelation.
My creative juice and life force
Animated in the moment I realize my direct pipeline to Infinite Creator.
Play does not limit me in form.
Form is born out of a question followed by my response.
In a song, poem, picture, breath and breadth.
One and the same.
Energy bursts within me.
Time is meaningless as I’m immersed in my play.
It could be minutes or hours, no matter.
Play is a love song to the universe from my heart and soul.
Oh, blessed play.
Who will I be as I create through you?

Inner Reflection On Prayer
Here’s what prayer isn’t. It’s not a 911 call. It’s not petitioning some force in the sky for something you want, and who will make an arbitrary decision to either grant your request or refuse it. Instead, prayer is a daily practice of coming into alignment with the Infinite that is living life as you, and seeing and believing with all your heart and soul that your deepest desires have already been granted.
I step into the mystery.
Divine Source unfolding as my life.
Perfect peace, perfect love, perfect grace
Bestowed even before my request.
Flowing and knowing the divine power of God within
I touch the mystery of my own soul.
Perfect, whole and complete in every moment
I dance within the divine
Expressing as me.
I open my heart to the deep silence of prayer
The breath of Spirit breathing as me.
I open my heart to follow as guidance whispers in my ear,
Profoundly thankful for the sacredness of life.
And for the infinite yes.
Oh, blessed prayer.
Who will I be as I live in you?
