Here we go on another trip around the sun, and like almost everyone writing blog posts at this time of the year, here’s my version of the 2019 Preview of coming attractions.
As I looked back over 2018, there were some fabulous events and achievements. I was much more focused on what I wanted and I let a lot of stuff go. However the job of letting go is never done so I’m going to get my STOP list out of the way first. (And by the way, there’s nothing negative about a STOP list – unless I ignore it completely in the coming year!)
There may be other habits to release as 2019 moves forward but the following seemed the most important.
2019 Preview: What I’m Going to Stop
Trying to be an extrovert. I’m an introvert by nature. However, it’s a misconception that introverts are shy, anti-social wallflowers. We just need more alone time to recharge our batteries and we do prefer deep conversations with few people rather than small talk in the company of many. This year I plan on being true without apology to my INFP nature.
Trying to be vegan. My metabolic type is not suited to a vegan diet. One size definitely does not fit all! The best I could do is be vegan-ish. Vegans can’t seem to stop talking about how great it is to be vegan so in certain circles, I stay quiet about the fact that I’m a meat eater. No more!
Being afraid of my own tears and grief. So many things are difficult to see in the world right now. Sometimes I find myself in a well of grief over a headline. Over the years I’ve developed many coping strategies for dealing with the unwanted feelings of sadness and grief. However it’s not a good thing when the coping strategy is self-harmful. Is it?
On the bright side, while doing this STOP list I developed a profound sense of gratitude that it’s so short.
Now on to the CONTINUE list. It should be more fun!
2019 Preview: What I’m Going to Continue Personally
My magic beans. Every year I take six beans and charge them with an intention. As I pulled out last year’s list, I discovered that four out of the six beans had manifested during the past year. Yay! I kept the two that didn’t manifest (yet!) and wrote four new ones for 2019. It’s always fun to pull them out and read them at the end of the year, while also giving thanks to whatever divine power assisted me.
Naps. Napping is a superpower. Enough said.
Saying thank you for no reason at all. Grateful jars and gratitude journals abound. Writing down “I’m grateful for…(fill in the blank)” is a powerful practice. Yet, there’s something deeper that stirs in my heart when I practise just being grateful. No reason, just grateful.
Journal writing. Although I don’t do this practice every day, I do know the power of “mentally taking out the garbage.” Using a pen and paper rather than typing makes a big difference to the effectiveness too. As I write, I’m often surprised by the words that flow out of the depths of my subconscious on to the page. Wow, I’m glad that isn’t moldering in there any more.
Prayer. Sometimes my prayers are wordless. Sometimes they’re a feeling that rises up in me as I listen to music. When I use words, I start with thank you because what I’m praying for has already been granted by Infinite Mind. That is the Truth, capital T.
2019 Preview: What I’m Going to Continue Professionally
Forty day practices. This year I did several 40 day practices that I devised myself. I do the practice in the morning, and it takes about 10 or 15 minutes a day for 40 days. They included items like health, energy, writing, movement. Consistency is the superpower here, along with making connections. This year the 40 day practice is going to become an In-Powerment Circle as well.
In-Powerment Circles. I loved the book circles I did this past year and plan on doing more, both offline and virtual. Ideas for new circles include abundance circles, a circle for getting stuff done, an emergence process circle. Exciting.
A new blog post every week. It’s been both fun and challenging to write a blog post each week. I’ve never struggled to find topics; so far, so good. I did wonder at the beginning why all my posts ended up somewhere around the 1000 word mark but I’m okay with it now. It seems that’s just what they are.
Never Miss the Weekly Post
Audio recordings. The audios I’ve done so far have been meditation and mindfulness programs. This year I’ll continue with them, but I’m also going to give podcasting a whirl. It’s an ideal way for me to amplify my voice and presence, while supporting other women through interviews and profiles. It’s also not a big technical leap so it’s win, win, win.
Now onto my Start list without which no 2019 preview would be complete.
2019 Preview: What I’m Going to Start
My new theme word. This could have gone in the Continue list but since it’s new for the coming year I’m putting it here. Every year I choose a theme word, a lens to focus through for the 12 months. This year the word is EMERGENCE. As more light emerges from the dark, more fierce and feminine women are rising and taking a stand for a better future for our planet and all its inhabitants. So the word is very personal, and it also (despite appearances) represents what’s happening in the world. More light and more fierce love.
Get outside more. In summer it’s easy to get out, gardening, walking and hiking, etc. In the wintertime here in the Pacific Northwest it rains. And rains. But as an old boss of mine used to say, you’re not sugar or salt, you won’t melt. Raincoat and big brolly, get ready.
Choosing a monthly theme. This is definitely new for 2019. Along with the word for the year, I’m choosing a monthly inspirational theme and to accompany it, a monthly song. First up, Juicy January. Though my horoscope from Free Will Astrology (which I’ll definitely continue to read in 2019) suggested Queen’s We Are the Champions, I’m going to go with Beyonce’s I Was Here for Jan.
Paying more attention to how I feel rather than what I do. I saved the most important for last. With help from Danielle LaPorte (another Canadian!) and her Desire Map Planner, I’m going to focus more on the feelings I want to experience and less on the attainment of goals. Goals change. What I want to experience is more aligned with presence, radiance, inspiration, heart and soul. And my fearless prediction? I bet I get more done.
These ideas for my 2019 preview are by no means comprehensive but since I like surprises, inspirations, and new discoveries, I’m good with that.
